Beginner Strategy: Your First Ten Turns

Build a stable opening in Frontier Accord by choosing efficient neutral targets, managing reserves, and avoiding an exposed early empire.

Choose an opening direction

Your first objective is not to own the most territory immediately. It is to create a connected position with as few exposed borders as possible. Look for nearby neutral territories with modest armies and useful follow-on routes.

Country persuasion matters from the opening clash. When two targets are otherwise similar, attack the territory that leans more strongly toward you and keep the less friendly target for a better reinforced army.

  • Prefer connected clusters over isolated captures.
  • Avoid opening several borders against different commanders at once.
  • Keep at least one route toward the interior of the map so another player cannot seal you into an island chain.

Use reserves deliberately

Draft rises as your territory count grows, with a manager-defined minimum. You may deploy reserves immediately or keep them in stock for a later push, so a quiet turn is not necessarily a wasted turn.

Reinforce the army that can perform more than one job: attack a weak neighbour now, protect a border afterward, and remain connected to the rest of your territory.

  • Do not leave every newly captured territory at one army when an enemy is already beside it.
  • Do not bury all reserves in your starting territory once the front has moved away.
  • Respect the country army cap when planning where future drafts can be deployed.

Know when to stop attacking

Battles resolve one clash at a time and stop automatically before the attacking territory would fall below one army. The Stop Battle control lets you disengage earlier when the exchange becomes too expensive.

A successful capture still needs a defending force. Finishing a battle with no useful follow-up can leave the new territory exposed and turn a victory into an easy counterattack.

  • Count the enemy armies before committing a border stack.
  • Stop if the remaining prize is worth less than the defence you are stripping away.
  • End the turn with armies on likely invasion routes, not only on yesterday's front.
