How to Play Against AI Commanders

Choose an AI difficulty and counter computer expansion, continent building, border defence, and advanced strategic tools in Frontier Accord.

Choose a useful difficulty

Easy provides a forgiving introduction. Medium begins pursuing completed continents, while Hard and Hardest improve movement, defence, and denial. Master adds stronger threat assessment and elimination planning. Grand Master is the highest standard AI tier and can combine those priorities with the most demanding strategic play.

Higher difficulty does not need hidden armies or secret dice advantages. Its strength comes from choosing more valuable attacks, moving forces toward danger, and reacting to the wider map.

  • Start on Medium if you already understand the turn controls.
  • Use Hard or Hardest to practise defending a continent against deliberate disruption.
  • Expect Master and Grand Master to punish isolated armies and nearly completed regions.

Deny compounding advantages

A computer commander becomes dangerous when connected territory, continent income, and safe movement routes reinforce one another. Breaking one country in a completed continent removes both its regional draft bonus and its protection against outside attack.

Do not chase every AI capture. Attack the country that breaks a continent, cuts a movement route, or exposes a large army to pressure from more than one direction.

  • Watch next-draft figures in the player bar, not only current territory totals.
  • Interrupt a nearly complete continent before attacking unrelated neutral territory.
  • Use several modest fronts to force a large AI army to choose where it can respond.

Survive a seven-opponent table

With many opponents, the safest early empire is compact and politically favourable. Expanding too quickly can make you the only reachable target for several computer commanders at once.

Save enough reserve to answer an unexpected breakthrough. When other factions are fighting each other, use the opportunity to finish a region or reposition armies rather than joining every battle immediately.

  • Reduce the number of borders that different opponents can attack.
  • Let rival AI commanders spend armies against one another when the battle does not threaten your route.
  • Eliminate weakened commanders when doing so also improves your territory shape or loyalty position.
